I’m Mr Peet, and I’m excited to be teaching your children this year, supported by Ms McLeod. We’re looking forward to an amazing year of learning and fun together.

Curriculum Overview
These cycles are taught on alternate years in order to ensure that children (particularly those in mixed age classes) have covered all areas of the curriculum during their time at Chapelfield.
What We’re Learning This Year
This term, we’ll be exploring:
- English: The LiteracyShed topics ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Day of the Dead’, along with the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar.
- Maths: The focus this term will be the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Science: Forces and Animals including humans
- Geography: Radcliffe: Is Manchester winning the fight against climate change?
- PE: Year 5 will be swimming, Year 6 will studying Tennis and Game Sense Invasion
- Art: Street Art
- Computing: Online Safety Networks
- MyHappyMinds: Know Your Brain and My Happy Mind Places
- History: The Industrial Revolution: How it transformed Manchester

Class routines
First thing, students practice arithmetic and worded problems daily in early maths. Reading comprehension, spelling and grammar practice is also included in this session on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Morning break is at 10:15 – 10:30am everyday except Thursday on which it is at 10:45-11:00am.
From 12:15-13.15pm students enjoy lunch, after which they practice Maths fluency from 13:15-13:30.
Students usually have a short comfort break, usually the daily mile, from 14:35-14.45pm.
Home time is at 3:25pm.
Home Learning
- Homework is on Purple Mash, usually to be returned within a week of being given. Spelling homework is given on a Monday to be completed by the following Monday.
- Please read with your child at least three times a week

Useful Reminders
- Year 5s should bring swimming kit every Friday with a bag large enough to hold their change of clothes. Year 6 should bring their PE kit every Friday.
- Students return signed reading records on Wednesdays.
- Parents can help by reading with their child at least three times a week, encouraging their child to read a variety of books for pleasure and to explore learning opportunities on Purplemash.com.
