Welcome and Meet the Y1 / 2 Team.

Hello and welcome to Y1 /2. I am Mrs Allman, your child’s class teacher. I have over twenty years of teaching experience and have spent the majority of my career teaching in KS1.  I am also the Lead Teacher for phonics and early reading at Chapelfield; a role that I am very passionate about.  I believe that enabling children to become skilled, enthusiastic readers has the power to change their lives both in school and beyond.

Working with me in our class is Mrs Thompson, a very experienced and skilled Teaching Assistant, who has been with Chapelfield for many years.  

We are also lucky to have the expertise of Miss O’Carroll, who works across all KS1 classes to deliver individual tutoring for phonics and reading. Miss O’Carroll worked as a teacher for many years and is highly skilled at delivering this support.

We are all excited to be working with you and your child this year. We believe that teamwork between home and school is essential and look forward to a fun filled year of learning together.

Class Timetable

The timetable below shows which subjects are taught and how often. Please be aware that we sometimes make changes to the timetable.

Our Weekly Timetable

Class Learning

Please ensure that your child has everything they need for school each day. This includes sensible waterproof shoes and a coat. Our class is outside of the main school building and so we frequently need to venture outside, even if it is raining.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day.

PE is on Thursday but this could change. PE kits should come into school on the first day of each term in a drawstring bag. We suggest that they stay in school all term and are taken home at half term to be washed. Please put your child’s name on every item of clothing so that we can ensure nothing gets lost.

Your child can bring a piece of fruit or a yoghurt for their morning snack. We also have fruit available in class for the children to choose from.

Please ensure that your child’s reading pack is in school every day. In Read, Write Inc children’s books are changed as their group moves onto a new book in school and so there is no set day of the week for this.

We sign Reading Records and give chart stickers on Friday. 

Learning at Home

We ask that the children read a minimum of three times a week. However, the more frequently your child reads to you, the better their progress in reading will be. Please remember to log on to Oxford Owl and complete the reading homework on there too. The children really enjoy the phonics quizzes! There are also hundreds of free books for your child to read in the e. Library section of the web page.

Spellings are given out on Friday and tested the following Thursday. Please ensure that your child’s spelling book comes into school on Thursday.

Sometimes I will set home learning tasks on a Friday. This will not be every week. I usually try to make the tasks fun and engaging so that you can complete them together. They are often design, craft, music or art based.  I usually allow a week for the task to be completed.
