Hello, and welcome to Year 5/6!
My name is Mrs Hands and our class is supported by Mrs Seddon, Mrs McLeod and Mr Calderbank. We are looking forward to an exciting year working with your children and hope that they will enjoy it as much as we will!

Curriculum Overview
Cycle A: 2027/28
Cycle B: 2026/27
These cycles are taught on alternate years in order to ensure that children (particularly those in mixed age classes) have covered all areas of the curriculum during their time at Chapelfield.
We are aiming to empower our children’s mental health and well-being and to teach PSHE through the My Happy Mind curriculum, an NHS commissioned initiative.

In addition, we will be doing Maths Fluency (times table facts etc.) each day for 15 minutes and French on a Friday morning in alternate terms.
Home Learning
New spellings are set every Tuesday and tested the following Tuesday. These can be practised at home either on paper or via Spelling Shed on an electronic device. Written spelling homeworks should be returned to school the following day.
Homeworks will also be set on Purple Mash each week (Tuesdays) and children can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars. The children all have individual logins to access their accounts at home on these programmes.
There is an expectation that children will read aloud to an adult at home and have their reading records signed at least three times a week.

Y6 - PE Kit is needed on a Friday.
Y5 – Swimming Kits on a Friday
Y5 – Brass Instruments on a Thursday
Reading Books and Reading Records should be brought into school each day. They will be checked on a Wednesday.
