Welcome to Year 4/5!

Hello and welcome to Year 4/5!
The teachers in our class are Mrs Dobson (our school Science lead) and Miss Wynne (our school French lead) .  We are supported by our fabulous teaching assistants Miss Baron and Mr Calderbank. We’re looking forward to an amazing year of learning and fun together and can’t wait to see your children thrive!

Brief Curriculum Overview

What We’re Learning This Year

These cycles are taught on alternate years in order to ensure that children (particularly those in mixed age classes) have covered all areas of the curriculum during their time at Chapelfield. 

We are aiming to empower our children’s mental health and well-being and to teach PSHE through the My Happy Mind curriculum, an NHS commissioned initiative. 

Cycle A: 2025/26

Class Timetable

This timetable below outlines the subjects covered and frequency, though some changes are occasionally made.

Our Weekly Timetable

In addition, we will be doing handwriting 3 times weekly and Maths Fluency (times table facts etc.) each day for 15 minutes. 

Learning at Home

New spellings are set every Thursday and tested the following Thursday. These can be practised at home either on paper or via Spelling Shed on an electronic device. Written spelling homework from Spelling Shed should be returned to school the following week. 

Homework will also be set on Purple Mash each week (Tuesdays) and children can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars.  The children all have individual logins to access their accounts at home on these programmes. 

There is an expectation that children will read aloud to an adult at home and have their reading records signed at least three times a week these are checked in school on a Friday.

Useful Reminders

Y4 - PE Kit is needed on a Friday. (Although this might change so please make sure it is in everyday!)

Y5 – Swimming Kits on a Friday 

Y5 – Brass Instruments on a Thursday 

Reading Books and Reading Records should be brought into school each day. They will be checked on a Friday. Water bottles should also be brought in everyday.
